Despite rumors of my demise, or that i was fleeing the country to escape charges of drag queen wig theft, I’m back! Here’s a roundup of whats going on today in the gay blogosphere:
Have you ever lost a friend or even been disowned by your family because you came out of the closet?
We here at Gaylynews.com want to hear from you! drop us a line at stories(at)gaylynews.com
Sorry I’ve been away from the site for a week. This flu/cold thingy has really beaten me down. To soothe your troubled hearts here is ultra-hottie Ben Patrick Johnson on the lastest installment of his “webcast”:
The “Center for Reclaiming America for Christ” has shuttered its ‘mo hatin windows this week after laying off a whole bunch of Anti-Gay Army of Christ Soldiers employees.
From the Orlando Sentinel:
The offshoot of Coral Ridge Ministries laid off an undisclosed number of workers Thursday at its headquarters here and at an office in Washington in what was called “streamlining.”
“We’re getting back to our core competency, the production of media,” said Brian Fisher, executive vice president at Coral Ridge, which was founded by the Rev. D. James Kennedy. “Our heart and soul is the teaching of Dr. Kennedy, and getting it to more people than those who come to church.”
Oh the teachings of D. James Kennedy! So why wasn’t the organization called “Center for Reclaiming America for Dr. Kennedy (no relation to Ted)”?
Tim over at “I Think I Might Be Gay”(who incidentally, no longer thinks, he knows) is discovering that his ex (a woman) isn’t handling their breakup like a mature woman. That’s right Tim, Mature women break shit, then eat a whole gallon of Ben and Jerry’s Vermonty Python Ice cream. and cry. how they cry.
and Brady over at “Some Guys Are Normal” has something to say to hypocrites, and to the assholes who defaced pro-gay billboards in Indianapolis: You Suck!
If you want us to check out your blog, drop as a line at “blogs (at) Gaylynews.com” (I don’t want any Penis Enlargement SPAM anymore than you do. I’m just fine with the size of my… whats that? you say 11 inches? and only one pill?)
We here at Gayly News (I’ve got to stop refering to myself in the “Royal We”) LOVE Jonny McGovern. Whats that? You’ve never heard of Jonny Mcgovern? well, you suck.
If you haven’t been listening to his kick-ass podcast “Gay Pimpin with Jonny Mcgovern” you’re missing out on one of the, if not the , best comedy podcast out there. Also known as the “Gay Pimp” he announced his new Album “Boys Gone Wild” will be released…..soon. take a listen to the trailer here:
We particularly like the liberal use of “Carmina Burana”.
You can also check out his latest video,”Somethin’ for the fellas who like the fellas” here:(Possibly NSFW, depending on where you work)
OK, you got me. There ARE queers in Alabama (my home state..and where I live now) and they have a film festival!. Included in the films are a documentary on Alabama’s first openly gay lesislator, Patricia Todd and on Alabama native and war-foe and super hot, hot hottie Jeff Key From the Birmingham SHOUT website
Birmingham Shout will celebrate the growing gay and lesbian communities in the Magic City, as well as the increasing demand for alternative / independent films in the Greater Birmingham area. The three-day film festival will showcase features, documentaries and short films by new and established artists and offer attendees the opportunity to view topics of interest to the GLBT communities, as well as to interact with filmmakers and documentary subjects in attendance.
So if you live in Alabama, or hell, in a neighboring state, drive on over to Birmingham to check out the SHOUT film festival. It’ll be a blast. You’ll at least see your share of shirtless men (and maybe even some shirtless ladies) on screen.
A lot of the Gay blogosphere has ignored or ,at the very least, forgotten about the Soulforce Equality Riders. Mainly because this year there are two buses heading in seperate directions and thats a lot of queers to keep up with, even for us.
So we decided to check in and see what was goin on, who was getting arrested and what were they wearing when it happened.
Turns out 10 riders were arrested yesterday at Bethany Lutheran College. from the soulforce press release
Over twenty supportive community members, including students from Minnesota State University, Mankato, joined the Riders in this peaceful action. Crowds of students gathered to watch as ten Equality Riders were arrested, while the remaining Riders, community members, and MSU students lined the curb and quietly sang a benediction: “Go now in peace; may the love of God surround you everywhere you go.”
Because who doesn’t love a little arresting music? Seriously though, I’m sure the riders got asked this all the time, but, why? Why try to talk to people who probably don’t want to hear what you have to say? Well it turns out, not everyone is so homo-hatin:
Prior to arrest, the Equality Riders spent two-and-a-half hours in silent vigil outside the campus gates. Bethany Lutheran students stopped by to shake hands, thank the Riders for being there, and ask questions. “I support what you are doing 100%,” said one Bethany Lutheran senior. An MSU student reiterated that support and added that, coming from a school that welcomed him as a gay man, he felt that it was especially important to stand in solidarity with those who were not welcomed in the same way.
Following the arrest, as many as fifty Bethany Lutheran students joined the Riders for conversations lasting up to two hours.
I guess those conversations plant the seed in which real change can begin to grow. Maybe it’s easy for me to cringe at being arrested as I sit behind my keyboard and type away, but I really do admire these guys/gals/trans for making a stand on the turf of people who teach hate.
